What do we choose to carry forward, and what happens to the things we leave behind?
A photograph, a family carpet, a garden, a recipe, a gesture — small things can hold stories long after the moment that gave them meaning has passed. They are carried from one generation to another, repaired, changed, repeated, and sometimes lost.
The exhibition brings together works by Khadisha Dabayeva, Human van der Merwe, and Anzhelika Palyvoda, whose practices trace these different forms of remembering and carrying things forward. Drawing on personal histories from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and South Africa, the exhibition becomes a temporary space for things that continue to live through us.
During the exhibition, visitors will also be invited to share a meal and bring food, recipes, or artifacts to open up a discussion on family archives. How do we choose and preserve objects from our ancestors, and what happens after?
