Michaela Nagyidaiová
Michaela Nagyidaiová (*1996, Bratislava) is a Slovak visual artist based in Vienna. Her practice explores the connection between landscape and memory, the transformation of Central and Eastern European environments, migration, and notions of home.
Drawing on both historical events and contemporary developments, she rethinks subjects that shape her communities, drawing attention to overlooked histories and current issues across Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. Nagyidaiová also questions the historical and geographical hierarchies between Eastern Europe and the West, challenging the persistent perception of the region as peripheral. Her work examines how ideologies and political forces permeate the personal dimensions of everyday life, family histories, and relationships to one’s native environment.
She develops long term, research based and deeply personal projects that combine photography, video, archival materials, and text. She graduated with an MA in Photojournalism & Documentary Photography at the London College of Communication in 2019.
