Vienna is a city of diverse nationalities, backgrounds, experiences and genders. This unique and beautiful character should be reflected in the city’s music program, but is currently not. The representation of musicians who identify as Black, PoC or (post)migrant* or are refugees is disproportionately low when contrasted with population numbers. QM&A On Stage is a program initiated by Mwita Mataro that aims at promoting underrepresented artists by offering various prizes aimed at furthering their career, bringing them in contact with various actors inside the Viennese music scene and hosting a showcase event with strong media coverage. In order to be considered for the program, an application is necessary.
