In the framework of our series of talks with cultural workers from Vienna, we are aiming at making knowledge on the Viennese cultural sector accessible to all. We want to explore, how programs are created, what access points there are for artists and how inclusive they are. Furthermore, we want to highlight especially interesting galleries or initiatives that foster artistic diversity and stand for a new and inclusive approach of producing and exhibiting art.
For this talk, we have invited Christine Bruckbauer. She runs the platform and project room philomena+ that aims at connecting artists and architects from the MENA-region with the Viennese art community. For this purpose she invites artists to Vienna on residencies, hosts workshops and symposia and curates exhibitions. In the beautiful club rooms of A+Friends, we will be learning more about her work, the motivation behind it and her personal approach to curating. She will be joined by the artists that she is currently working with, Elma Riza (artist in residence at philomena+) and Petra Gell.
In the second part of the evening we will be introducing Shirin Farshbaf, one of the artists we are currently working with. She is an Iranian choreographer, dancer and performer that says of herself that she “dances to confront”. We will be talking to her about her artistic practice and showing selected video recordings of past performances. She will give us an insight into the conceptual framework of these works, giving us an opportunity to explore them on a deeper level.
