Gallerist Meeting: Peter Gaugy

  • Galerie Peter Gaugy 106 Goldschlagstraße Wien, Wien, 1150 Austria (map)

In the framework of our series of talks with cultural workers from Vienna, we are aiming at making knowledge on the Viennese cultural sector accessible to the selected artists of the QMA Artist Collective. We want to explore, how programs are created, what access points there are for artists and how inclusive they are.

For this event we are meeting with the gallerist Peter Gaugy, who hosted one of our shows in 2023. He will be giving an insight into how his experience was of opening a gallery in Vienna as an outsider coming from the US and how he built a new audience. He’ll be talking about his experiences in the scene, how he finds new artists to work with and what the differences are in Vienna to opening gallery spaces somewhere else.

We’ll also be there to see the exhibition Raumplastische Gerüste by Christian Ruschitzka currently on view.

Location: Galerie Peter Gaugy, Goldschlagstrasse 106, 1150 Vienna

Peter Gaugy opened his gallery on Goldschlagstrasse in 2021 with a mission to bring international artists to Vienna and Austrian artists to an international audience. Coming from a multicultural artistic family, his career in the arts has taken him from California to New York, Santa Fe, and now Vienna. Along the way, he has worked with numerous artists and arts organizations and was elected as President of the Gallery Association, where he represented over 100 galleries. Drawing from his own background, he believes that the immigrant experience is a source of extraordinary power and the secret ingredient to Vienna’s tremendous contributions to world culture.
